The graves in these paintings are based on those found in the churchyard of St Mary the Virgin in Turville, Bucks.  This church and Turville itself, is the setting for the fictitious English village of Bramley End in the  1942 war-film "Went the Day well?"  by Alberto Cavalcanti.
